The tartan was first published in the Vestiarium Scoticum in 1842

Also known as Gow (Hebridean Hunting)

Blue was used in place of red and this has become recognised as their Hunting tartan

Robert Bain was said to have illustrated it with four red lines but there is no evidence of this in his book 'The Clans & Tartans of Scotland'

Based on the design of a tartan Jacket said to have been worn by Prince Charles Edward Stuart at Culloden - earliest date 1746 - now preserved in the Scottish United Services Museum in Edinburgh Castle

WILSON (MODERN) - Tartans beginning with 'R' The tartan was first publishedNamed after Janet Wilson, wife of the Bannockburn weaver, William Wilson who manufactured tartans from 1765. It is suggested in the extensive archives of the company that the tartan was prepared for the wedding in 1780 between the William Wilson, the son of the founder, and Janet Paterson. The sett was later introduced as the Clan Wilson family tartan.
